Call for Artists - The Note Illustrated: A Swingin' Visual of all Things Music!
This show provides artists a unique opportunity to sell and showcase art to a cross section of Kansas City art buyers: Jazz lovers, Art lovers, and First Friday's visitors will all receive invitations to both the February and March 4th First Friday / Saturday events.

Live jazz will provide life to the art and complementary beer, wine, and appetizers will be provided for all in attendance. The exhibit will be held at Buttonwood Art Space located at 3013 Main Street where staff is available during business hours to promote and sell your work.

As Buttonwood has done in the past, The Note Illustrated supports a great cause: 50% of the proceeds of each sale will go to support The American Jazz Museum at historic 18th and Vine. With a note worthy mission, the American Jazz Museum celebrates and exhibits the experience of jazz as an original American art form through research, exhibitions, education, and performance at one of the country's jazz crossroads - 18th & Vine, Kansas City, MO.

All artists are invited to jury into the show via guest curator Sonie Ruffin at the American Jazz Museum (vcuratorajm@gmail.com).

* Applications, digital pictures of your work, image list with prices, and a brief biography must be submitted by Friday, December 3rd.
* The delivery date for your art to be delivered to Buttonwood will be the last week of January with Saturday January 29 being the final date.
* The First Friday Open House events February and March 4th, 2011 (5p - 9p) and all artists are invited to participate!
* The show will close on Friday March 25, 2011 so you can pick up any unsold art on March 26 (10am - 3pm)

ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS: All mediums are welcome- 2-D cannot exceed 6 feet by 6 feet; 3-D artists must apply with a size included. Miniatures are welcome as well. All art for The Note Illustrated show must represent music or musicians, but can be created in any discipline, for example, impressionist, abstract, super realism, etc.

While Buttonwood will be the host of the exhibit, the jury for The Note Illustrated will be lead by a team from The American Jazz Museum (http://www.americanjazzmuseum.com/). Also, unlike the majority of shows at Buttonwood, this event is a fundraiser for The American Jazz Museum so there is a fifty percent (50%) commission being retained for sales of the pieces entered: Price accordingly.

As we have found with the other significant fundraising events at Buttonwood, we are expecting this show to pull in a large and diverse crowd. A dedicated section on the American Jazz Museum website will be created to promote the show. Visit us at http://www.americanjazzmuseum.org/

Show promotion will include postcard mailings totaling more than 6,000 pieces through both the American Jazz Museum and Buttonwood Art Space. Email and other Social marketing including Twitter and Facebook will also be incorporated. Artists will be provided with postcard and e-invitations to distribute to their personal patron / collector lists and a publicist has been engaged for additional media promotion.

The "First Friday's / Saturday" Open Houses in Both February and March will be big events. Details are still coming together but talks are under way with several area restaurants for catering. Live jazz will be performed at both events: Friday February 4th the air will be filled with a jazz trio from Bobby Watson's UMKC jazz studies program. And a stellar ensemble sponsored by the American Jazz Museum will be setting the tone on March 4th .

QUESTIONS: Contact Jon McGraw or KathyDrungilas at Buttonwood Art Space, 816-285-9000 or Sonie Ruffin at vcuratorajm@gmail.com.

Studio Exanimo's 2011 Winter/Spring Schedule:

PAINTING & SENSING WORKSHOPS & CLASSES
Oklahoma * Kansas * New Mexico
Experience a deep exploration of your true home: your heart.
The studio is a "laboratory" where painting and sensing encourage
direct contact with what is arising in you in each moment.
The atmosphere is one of playfulness, stillness and tenderness.

You are offered the support to meet what is happening in the moment.
Trusting in a deeper, more authentic sense of self is encouraged.
Through inquiry and exploration a simple, open presence is cultivated for
meeting yourself with a mighty kindness and tenderness.

No art experience required;
only curiosity, honesty and a willingness to be with not knowing.
Technique is not taught;
discover your expressive voice through cultivating stillness and deeper listening.
Critiques are not offered;
the exploration is about being present and not in producing art.
