Animation Celebration SUBMISSIONS!!!

We have now set up an FTP site for submissions.  It will require FTP software (i.e. Filezilla or Cyberduck, or a web browser set to work with FTP) Please contact Dylan Dietz for details.

Do you have an animated short or feature that you would like to see on the LARGEST screen in the state of Kansas (75 x 100 ft.)?  What about screening them along side some of entertainment's hottest animators working right here in the Kansas City metro area?  How about getting feedback right from the artists?  MAPA and CinemaKC are joining forces to make that dream a reality.

The Midwest Association of Professional Animators (MAPA) is proud to propose a joint partnership with CinemaKC in bringing the Midwest its first and only Animation Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012.  The event will be held at the Boulevard Drive-in, 1051 Merriam Lane, Kansas City, KS 66103.

This rare opportunity will give student, amateur and professional animators a chance to screen, discuss and answer questions about their respective works side-by-side.  Furthermore, the Boulevard's ground camera will give willing artists a chance to make their own silver screen debuts and talk about their works before our live audience.

All submissions should be on DVD or a .mov file in H.264. They must all include a complete credit list. There is no cost for submission. Deadline to submit is August 21, 2012.

Contact Dylan Dietz for submission details.  You can reach him by phone: 816-267-0719, or by email:

Annecy 2012 poster
Marion Franck, who created the visual this year, believes that animation is a process that gives life and movement to still images and drawings. Essential elements like light and time help create new universes in animation and graphic design.

These are the notions creative designer Marion Franck wanted to express in her visual showing a mysterious and beautiful Greek nymph inspired creature rising out of lake Annecy.

Robert Altman Grant 2012: Time to Apply!!!

This is the last chance for filmmakers in the greater Kansas City area to apply for Robert Altman grants for 2012!  To apply, go to The application fee is $10 and the deadline is 5 p.m. CST, June 1, 2012.

From the Greater Kansas City Film Commission:

The Film Commission of Greater Kansas City is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2012 Robert Altman Emerging Filmmakers Fund Education Grants

The fund’s inaugural grants will award 10 filmmakers living within 50 miles of the greater Kansas City area. The goal is to give filmmakers the expert business knowledge needed to help turn their craft into a business, turn an existing project into a more fruitful venture or both.

“Much like the imagination of Robert Altman, the potential for these grants is unlimited,” said Justin Gardner, Film Commission board member and founder/director of the Robert Altman Emerging Filmmakers Fund. “Thanks to a generous grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the 10 selected filmmakers will be able to participate in the FastTrac® NewVenture™ program, which will give them knowledge about starting a company that they just don’t teach in film school. We’re excited to help put local artists on a path for creative business success.”

Applicants must have a business or project idea ready to bring to five full-day classes on consecutive Fridays from July 13 to Aug. 10 at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Small Business & Technology Development Center, 4747 Troost Ave., room 114. Grant winners will be notified by July 1.

The Kauffman Foundation grant will cover the $500 program fee for the FastTrac® NewVenture™ program for all 10 grant recipients. (Because of this subsidy, participants are required to attend all sessions, except for illness or emergency.)

To apply, go to The application fee is $10 and the deadline is 5 p.m. CST, June 1, 2012.
