Grants of up to $5,000 available for local moviemakers

"Local moviemakers could catch a break next year with the establishment of the Robert Altman Emerging Filmmakers Fund, which will award grants of up to $5,000 to local writers, directors and producers of short films.
Created by the Film Commission of Greater Kansas City, the fund (named, of course, after KC native and Hollywood maverick Robert Altman), will be administered by the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City.
“It’s an effort to help out local filmmakers who are doing great things,” said Justin Gardner, filmmaker, social media manager for AMC Entertainment and a film commission board member.
Film Commission members are seeking contributions from local corporations. They hope the Altman Fund can start bestowing grants early next year."
