ArtsKC Awards Announces Artist Selection

Motherhood, Nicole Emanuel

The Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City selects visual artist Nicole Emanuel as the official artist of the 8th annual ArtsKC Awards Luncheon on January 28, 2011 from 11:15 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Starlight Theatre Complex. Each year, the Arts Council seeks a local artist to develop seven original works of art to be presented to metro-area businesses in recognition of their impact in the arts community and their support of the ArtsKC Fund workplace giving campaign.

In her Artist Concept Nicole writes, "No one escapes the balancing act required by modern life." As a painter, mother of two, writer and arts organizer, Emanuel is no exception. She continues, "Constantly juggling, we seek equilibrium between family, work, love, creativity and logistics. I'll pay tribute to the creative balancing acts we all play between Art/Work/Life."

"In selecting Emanuel for this commission", says Kelly Seward, Arts Council Director of Business Programs, "the committee was drawn to her illustrations of circus performers using everyday things such as laptops, cell phones and laundry to spotlight a dilemma that we all face every day, it takes creativity to juggle our lives in the 21st Century."

Nicole became formally involved with the Arts Council in 2009 when she applied for and received an Inspiration Grant.

"The Arts Council has been a beacon for me," says Nicole. "It's been there every step of the way, and inspired me to return to my art career."
